Mental Health

Mental health problems can arise at any time, irrespective of age or social class.

In many cases problems can be dealt with within the family or informally, but in other cases compulsory admission and detention in hospital, or the imposition of a Guardianship Order, can result.  Such events can have serious and far reaching consequences at any time of life.

We are members of the Mental Health Review Tribunal Panel, and are therefore authorised to represent people with such problems, either before the Mental Health Review Tribunal or more generally. In some cases it may be necessary to instruct an independent psychiatrist, social worker or other professional to present evidence to the Tribunal.

In nearly all cases, mental health work is covered under a simple and non-means tested Legal Aid Scheme.  Most of our work in this field is therefore conducted at no cost.
