With many more speed cameras and similar devices the risk of a driving ban is an increasing threat.
Can you afford to lose your licence? Sills & Betteridge
has extensive experience of dealing with all types
of motoring offences.
Magistrates have the power to disqualify a person from driving for a surprising
range of offences and should you receive a summons to attend at court we would
always recommend that you contact us for initial advice. If appropriate we can
give detailed advice and represent you at the court hearing or prepare a written
plea in mitigation.
12 penalty points normally (but not necessarily) means a disqualification under
the "totting up" system. If you are unfortunate enough to find yourself in this
position there are arguments that can be used to keep your licence particularly
if the court is satisfied that disqualification would cause "exceptional hardship" either
to you or to other persons eg, your family or employer. It is important to contact
us at an early stage so that we can advise you fully and ensure that the fullest
arguments are presented to the court.
If you are charged with a more serious driving related offence (eg, driving with
excess alcohol, driving whilst disqualified or dangerous driving) you should
contact Sills & Betteridge straightaway so that we can advise you. Many
of these offences carry the risk of imprisonment as well as lengthy disqualifications
and large fines. Where there is a risk of imprisonment legal aid would normally
be available.
