In a previous article, Is this the end of no-fault eviction notices?, I considered the possible impact of the Government’s proposed abolition of so-called “no fault” evictions under Section 21 of the Housing Act 1988. In July 2017 , the Government has published further details of its proposals in a consultation boldly headed “A New Deal for Renting”. By way of a reminder, Section 21 of the 1988 Act currently allows landlords to serve notice on a tenant without giving a formal reason for evicting them (hence the reference to Section 21 Notices as “no fault” evictions).
