The current law on data protection will be replaced with a new EU Regulation in May 2018. Despite Brexit looming, the government have confirmed that the new Regulation will be incorporated into our national law too – replacing the current system set out in the Data Protection Act 1998.
If you are a business owner, it is critical that you understand how the regulations affect you, and what your new responsibilities are in terms of how you process and protect personal data, whether that personal data relates to your employees, customers, suppliers or anyone else. You also need to be aware of the increased new penalties for failure to comply. In particular the rules regarding consent by data subjects to the use of their personal data will be significantly tightened, and the rules relating to Data Subject Access Requests (including timescales) will be revised.
In order to protect your business, you need to ensure you have newly compliant policies in place – either by updating existing policies or having new ones created. This is not simply a case of producing a new policy document, but also about understanding how that document and your overall business practices should operate in order to avoid falling foul of GDPR.
Whether you need a revised policy, hands-on support regarding the effect of GDPR or more formal training sessions for management and/or staff, contact Euan McLaughlin, a Partner in our Commercial Team.
DBS are delighted with the advice given by Euan McLaughlin regarding GDPR. Euan has helped us to make sense of this potential minefield and has put in place robust policies and terms that protect our organisation.
Corporate partner Martin Walsh, led a team from Sills, who were an integral part of the team working on our recent multi million pound Management Buy Out of Battles Ltd.
Sills worked tirelessly to complete the transaction against a very tight deadline. Martin used his significant transaction experience and legal knowledge to find practical solutions to the inevitable issues that arose and provided some particularly sage advice when we had our most difficult meetings with the Vendor. Sills service levels were excellent, providing a fast response to communications and immediately turning around the transactional documents. I rate them very highly and would not hesitate in recommending Martin and the Sills corporate team to anyone buying or selling a company or business.
As CEO of Sleaford Quality Foods I was delighted with the work Sills & Betteridge very recently carried out for the group on the multi million pound acquisition in Sleaford of the land and building formerly occupied (following their closure) by Great Plains UK Ltd which site is directly opposite our current factory and Warehouse. Having been looking for land in Sleaford for some time to meet the demands of our very rapidly growing business, our turnover is now in excess of £55 million, the location and the 8 acre plus site was perfect for us.
I wanted the transaction completed very quickly so as not to lose the opportunity and to have minimum interference with our production. As suppliers of dried foods and spices to the food industry it was vital we did not let down our customers.
I would in particular like to mention the work which Sills partner Martin Walsh, carried out for us in leading the Sills team. He worked very hard to ensure the transaction was completed to a very tight deadline.
I have worked with Sills for a number of years and continue to be very impressed with them and have no hesitation in recommending Martin and the Sills team.
Chloe, we just want to take this opportunity to thank you. There are not enough words to describe just how amazingly you have handled this whole process for us. We can’t thank you enough for supporting us through what has been a challenging few months!!
I asked Sharon to look into carrying out some debt collection and from the very first communication, Sharon took away all the stress and hassle which this situation can bring. Sharon kept me fully informed with what was going on and carried out the work in a professional yet personable manner. It was great when Sharon told me all the debt had been collected with late payment interest added and for me, it was a stress and hassle free experience and I would highly recommend Sharon’s services.
Wendy and her team worked brilliantly on a very challenging case with a great result – I gave them the information and they sorted it all out for me, professionally and efficiently . I would definitely recommend Wendy.
