Collaborative Law

Collaborative Law is a new dispute resolution model which aims to fundamentally change the way people think about family law. Rather than leaving family courts to decide how to resolve family breakdown, skilled and specially trained solicitors will help the parties involved to decide on the best solution for each party’s interest, and particularly the interests of any children involved. The lawyers are there to help each client work with the other. To make collaborative law work, you need to consider whether you are in the right frame of mind.

Do you feel you have a:

  • genuine desire to make the process work?
  • willingness to disclose, fully and honestly, information about all assets?

If so you can work with specially trained solicitors, who cannot afterwards represent the parties in Court to work in this collaborative way to reach an agreement.

What makes collaborative law so successful, in the right circumstances, is that it allows you to benefit from having your own legal advisor but also to be in control, without the threat of court proceedings hanging over you. You set the agenda and the pace so you can talk about the issues that matter most to you and your family without being governed by court dates and appearances. Most importantly, the key decisions you make about your future are yours and are not made by a stranger in a courtroom.
