Local Authority Proceedings Solicitors

Sills & Betteridge Solicitors have extensive experience of representing parents and children in care proceedings or other proceedings brought by the Local Authority. The majority of our family solicitors across the firm are accredited to the Law Society Children Panel which means that they have specialist expertise in acting for parents in proceedings brought by Social Services or acting for children in those proceedings usually on the instructions of CAFCASS (Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service).

Our specialist team has many years of experience of representing families in the Family Proceedings Court (Magistrates), County Court and the High Court as well as conducting appeals. We have access to a whole range of experts including psychologists and psychiatrists, paediatricians and other medical experts as well as being aware of the very best barristers to use when cases are particularly complex.

We also regularly attend Child in Need Meetings and Child Protection Conferences held by the Local Authority in order to assist families in putting forward their case. We regularly work with Children’s Guardians from CAFCASS and have established close professional relationships with the service over the years.

If a family is faced with the prospect of proceedings or other involvement by a Local Authority in their family life, we are always there to help and advise. We regularly advise families who wish to have contact with their children who are in care and with regard to Special Guardianship Orders and Adoption
