An Accident at Work Case Study to Mark APIL Injury Awareness Week – 23 to 27 June 2025

APIL INJURY AWARENESS WEEK – 23 - 27 JUNE 2025 – CASE STUDY

Our client, John, contacted Sills & Betteridge for advice following a slipping accident at work whereby he sustained a significant knee injury. Liability for this accident was admitted by the employer.

The initial knee injury, whilst painful and debilitating for a period of time, was expected to fully resolve. Unfortunately, John continued to suffer from knee pain which caused his knee to give way. Eventually, the ongoing knee issues caused John to have another accident at work, but this time there was no employer negligence involved. Following the second accident, John required knee surgery and extensive rehabilitation treatment.

Associate Jemma Burt obtained medical evidence which supported a link between the first and second accident, and John received compensation not only for the initial knee injury, but for the pain and suffering in his knee following the second accident, the surgery and the subsequent rehabilitation treatment. John also received compensation for anticipated treatment in the future.

John's total compensation award was £38,000.

The knee injury had a significant impact on John's life. John is a busy, working dad who suffered through several years of knee pain and instability. The claims team were thrilled with the result of this case.

The claims team at Sills & Betteridge are experienced at dealing with significant and complicated injuries and are able to provide professional advice on the best way to obtain the medical evidence needed to prove the case and secure well deserved compensation.
