What is Misdiagnosis?
Misdiagnosis is a type of medical negligence which can have life changing consequences. There are two main types of misdiagnosis, Incorrect or missed diagnosis and Late diagnosis.
- Incorrect or missed diagnosis is when a GP or consultant diagnoses the wrong medical condition or fails to diagnose any problem at all. If you have been diagnosed with the wrong medical condition this can lead to unnecessary or even dangerous treatments which can, in turn, often lead to the actual condition getting worse. In the worst cases, it can be too late once the correct diagnosis is found.
- Late diagnosis is when a medical professional fails to diagnose and treat a serious medical condition in a timely manner which can cause delays in treatment. Failure to provide the necessary treatment or refer the patient to a specialist, can result in many conditions becoming more serious.
When negligence can occur
A misdiagnosis can be made by any medical professional who’s responsible for a diagnosis whether NHS or private. This could be due to a failure to examine you properly, accurately interpret test results, or refer a patient to the correct specialist. When a diagnosis error leads to the wrong treatment, delayed treatment, or even no treatment at all, many conditions can be made much worse.

“Thank you very much for everything you’ve done for me. That is a great news for me, I don’t know how to thank you Mr Wilson
I just wanted to send you a message of thanks for your work over these past 4 and a half years. It has certainly been a tough time period in my life, but your support has made things so much easier. Knowing that there were people who understand me, my needs and most importantly believed in me means everything to me, i really can’t thank you enough. The case was certainly not a straight forward one, but you fought my corner at every step. Thank you.
I would also like to thank Alison as well for making me feel relaxed on the day should i have had to go into court. I would have gone in with 100% confidence and that could have made all the difference on the day. In the end it wasn’t necessary and we got the result. For me it was never about the money, it was about the effect it was going to have on my future life and career, so the result is a good one.
I would not hesitate for a second in recommending Sills & Betteridge
Thank you for all your help with this matter and the efficient manner in which my case has been handled. As I am sure you will appreciate, it was quite distressing and stressful to have had a second accident in such a short time frame but the way in which you handled the case and provided me with advice and kept me updated throughout has been very reassuring and I have nothing but praise and recommendation for both you and your company.
