Our training contracts immerse trainees in the working world of law from day one and they are given responsibility early on with their own caseload, where appropriate and an opportunity to carry out their own advocacy. We endeavour to build upon the skills and knowledge acquired during academic studies to develop our trainees into effective practising lawyers.
We take on trainee solicitors each year for a two-year training contract which commences in September. Sometimes there are opportunities for upcoming trainees to join us as Paralegals prior to their training contract.
Our two-year training contracts will provide trainees with hands-on experience in a variety of different areas of the law. The departments that trainees are likely to gain experience in include; litigation, corporate and commercial, commercial property, family and mediation, wills, trusts and probate, personal injury and medical negligence.
Trainees are supervised by an assigned lawyer and have regular review meetings with the firm’s training partner, Alison Hurton.
We have an excellent and proactive training department within the firm, and trainees are invited to regular in-house training days organised by the firms HR department. Both Alison Hurton and the wider firm have an open-door policy and encourage discussion about your training contract. We invest heavily in our trainees because your success is our success!
What we are looking for?
We are looking for proactive, well rounded individuals to join the firm. We want to know who you are as much as what you have achieved.
- Degree 2:1 or above (law or non- law degree);
- Good academic A-levels;
- Legal work experience;
- Other work experience;
- Customer service skills;
- Personal experiences and growth;
- Pro Bono work;
- What makes you stand out above the others;
- Communication skills;
- Common sense; and
- Commercial awareness.
The Application Process
January - Shortlisting from the previous years contract applications, begins.
February - 1st stage. Successful applicants are invited to attend a formal interview with HR and the Training Partner in Lincoln
March - 2nd stage. Those who were successful in formal interview stage are invited to the Trainee Assessment Weeks which take place over the Easter holidays in April.
April - Trainee Assessment Weeks. Applicants are invited to attend a 4-day assessment week in our Head Office, Aquis House, Lincoln. Assessments take place in 6 different legal practice areas and 1 non legal area and involve partner interviews and legal assessments within the office. A senior partner lunch is also scheduled into the week.
May - Applicants are updated on the status of their application and offers are made. All applicants are provided with detailed feedback on their assessments and are welcomed to put the experience on their CV.
September the following year - Training Contract begins
So for a contract starting in 2022, applicants should apply in 2020 to take part in the 2021 application process.
