Sills & Betteridge is a multi-site Firm with offices based in Lincolnshire and across Central England. The Firm has always been heavily committed to training and promotion from within. We feel that by advertising and integrating CILEx training into our employee development programmes we will recruit and retain employees who would ordinarily attend University or who will leave the Firm for further training elsewhere.

The CILEx qualification allows the Firm to motivate its staff by training each of them to an exceptional quality embedding the practical experience gained from our already developed extensive in-house training.

The advantage of employees training through the CILEx route is that we can tailor the units to the employee and the department in which they work to enhance the employee’s academic knowledge of their work area. For example, if we have an employee working in our Private Client department then that employee would opt for the elderly client unit and an employee working in the Family Department would opt for the family law unit, as well as the core modules.

We currently have students ranging from School Leavers who have either completed AS Levels or A Levels right up to LPC graduates on the CILEx scheme.  Some of our employees have taken the vocational route to qualification as a Chartered Legal Executive by studying the CILEX Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice followed by the CILEX Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in Law and Practice.  We also have Law Graduates who have not had the funds to commit to the Legal Practice Course.  In these circumstances they are exempt from the Level 3 course and can start on the Graduate Fast Track Level 6 qualification. We also pride ourselves on the new CILEx route to qualification for graduates who have already gained their Legal Practice Course who have not been able to secure a traditional training contract. These people have enrolled with CILEx as graduate members with complete exemptions from Level 3 and Level 6. These people will complete a work based learning programme as a graduate member as well as the Core Modules of the Professional Skills Course. They will then become Fellows and Chartered Legal Executives and under the new rules will be able to admit to the roll as Solicitors through the SRA by providing evidence of their work based learning. This is a new and exciting route to qualification and one that we are very supportive of, having already enrolled some of our LPC graduates on this route to qualification.

Not only are we very excited about the changes and the future for our ambitious employees but CILEx Law School has recognised the Firm as a champion of CILEx. As a result they have used the Firm and some of its current CILEx students to promote CILEx to other companies on their website. Please click on the link to see the full case study:  CILEx
